At home pet euthanasia
in Albury Wodonga

When the hardest day comes, our qualified vets and vet nurses come to your pet's side, at your own pace, in the place they've always called home.

How it works

Our qualified vet nurses are here to help from your first call.

Every family's journey is different. Here's what the next few steps may look like, so you feel informed and prepared every step of the way.

  1. Call one of our vet nurses

From the moment you reach out, our qualified vet nurses are here to help. With years of clinical experience, they will listen and help guide you on next best steps.

  2. We plan everything together

We'll arrange a time that suits your family and talk through what to expect, so the visit feels calm and unhurried.

  3. Peaceful home visit

Your vet arrives quietly, spends time with your pet, and moves at your family's pace, on their favourite blanket, under their favourite tree.

  4. We take care of aftercare

We handle all aftercare arrangements and logistics with our trusted partners, and offer grief counselling services for your family.

Every call is answered by a qualified vet nurse, not a call centre. Someone who deeply understands what your pet may be going through, can answer your clinical questions honestly, and will gently guide you towards the right next step for your family.

Dr Emily Mackle

Dr Emily Mackle

Veterinarian

Dr. Emily is a small animal veterinarian based locally in Albury-Wodonga. She believes that end-of-life care is a profound opportunity to honour the bond we share with our pets, offering them comfort, dignity, and peace in what is often their greatest moment of need. Having experienced pet loss herself, her approach centres on gently relieving suffering while compassionately supporting families as they navigate this challenging time.  In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Emily serves on the executive committee of the AVA Australian Veterinary Behavioural Medicine group and is a passionate advocate for the human–animal bond. Dr Emily has also completed a post graduate certificate in emergency and critical care, and is CAETA certified in best practice euthanasia.  She feels privileged to be able to offer a gentle goodbye when the time comes to the pets of the border.

Dr Aimee Owens

Dr Aimee Owens

Veterinarian

Aimee has called the Albury region home for over 10 years, and has spent the past three caring for local pets and the people who love them. She has a particular passion for helping pets maintain a great quality of life through every stage, with a special interest in senior pet care and end-of-life support. She loves building lasting relationships with clients and helping families make informed, unhurried decisions for their pets. At home, Aimee is kept busy by her two Kelpies, who have taught her plenty about the joys (and chaos!) of life with dogs.

Dr. Georgia Burton

Dr. Georgia Burton

Veterinarian

Dr Georgia graduated from the University of Queensland with Honours in 2019 and has been making her way further south, working as a vet in Sydney and now Albury-Wodonga. She referred a number of patients to Rest Your Paws while working in Sydney, and when she heard they were expanding to Albury-Wodonga she jumped at the chance to work alongside the people she'd trusted her patients with for years. Having said goodbye to her own beloved pets, she understands how much those final moments matter, and how a calm, compassionate farewell can bring comfort during such a difficult decision. She prides herself on gentle, unhurried care, creating a peaceful environment for pets and their families during one of life's hardest goodbyes.

★★★★★

“A heartfelt thank you to the team at Rest Your Paws. We called them on such short notice and Dr Brittany was at our door within the hour from our phone call. The compassionate care our beautiful 12 year old Archie received made the whole process so reassuring as it is such a tough decision. His final moments were happy with tummy rubs and lots of "good boy" moments. Archie knew he was loved and was calm and restful when the time came. Dr Brittany spent so much time in our home and gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. It was unrushed, caring and at our pace. We cannot thank you enough for your love and attention. It will never be forgotten. Take your wings Archie and fly across that beautiful rainbow to all your doggy friends. We love you. Love Nicole, Vlad, Matt, Luke and Gaby”

“Thank you so much to Dr Krystle, who came to our house the other day to put our beloved Nelson to rest. She was so kind and calmly explained the process start to end so we'd understand what was happening. What a tough job you and your team have, but it is so important. Thank you, Krystle - here's the drawing of Nelson I mentioned.”

Common questions

The questions families ask us most

Can't find what you're looking for? Call one of our vet nurses on 0422 157 675.

Your vet arrives quietly, introduces themselves, and takes time to meet your pet. Before anything else we sit and talk, asking about your pet's life, their habits, and the stories you'll want to keep. We often bring cake or a cheeseburger, and there is a particular joy in watching a pet who has barely eaten for weeks happily demolish something they'd never normally be allowed. Your vet will explain the process in as much, or as little, detail as you would like, and help you settle your pet wherever they are most comfortable: their own bed, a patch of sun outside, their favourite couch, or your arms. A gentle sedation comes first, to relax them and ease any discomfort. Then, only once you and your family are ready, a final medication lets your pet pass away peacefully within a few minutes. Most visits run 60 to 90 minutes, and nothing is booked behind you to cut it short. The time is yours: to sit with them, to tell stories, to say goodbye at your own pace. If your family would like a small ceremony, we'll guide it. If you'd rather be quiet, we'll follow your lead.
